Racqueteers Badminton Club History
Racqueteers Junior Badminton Club was founded in 1982 as a nursery for potential junior county players. Its number grew to such an extent that it needed to be split and so a group came to Echelford School in Ashford in 1993.
That group has now grown and in September 2006 yet another venue (Bishop Wand) will be used. This time the club will not lose it's identity. The players at Echelford School will be those of primary school age, and known as Racqueteers Rabbits and those at Bishop Wand School will be Racqueteers Juniors.
Our policy has always been to give our players a sport for life, no matter what level they choose to pursue. Hence we are now in the situation where we have enough 15 and 16 year olds to start an adult section, also at Bishop Wand and known simply as Racqueteers.
Our successes over the years have seen almost 20 players playing for Middlesex Junior County, several becoming coaches and others playing on the open circuit. In 2003 we became the first junior club in the country to achieve Sport England's' Clubmark status. We also won the Spelthorne Sports Council 'Special Award' for sporting achievement.
Our older members are encouraged to train as officials or coaches, (Our Bishop Wand coach was himself a Racqueteer at one time, and we have two assistant coaches helping out, both of which joined us when they were in primary school.)

So Racqueteers ensures, in true Sport England style, that anyone joining us will 'START ;STAY and SUCCEED'.
